Our usual work day here at SMADC consists of meetings, proofreading and deadlines. But today we got to shuck corn! Seems a little weird, right?
Well SMADC is excited to be featured in one of the chosen recipes, Slow-Roasted Goat Tacos with Sweet Corn Succotash, at the 11th Annual Buy Local Cookout held by Governor Larry Hogan on Thursday, July 19th! Submitted by SMADC staffer, and renowned local Chef, Craig Sewell, the recipe will include Southern Maryland Meats products from Monnett Farms in Calvert County, produce from Sassafras Creek Organic Farm in St. Mary’s County, and artisan tortillas from Nottingham Store in Prince George’s County. Learn more about the other outstanding recipes selected here. Congrats to all the chefs and producers who were chosen!
The entire SMADC staff will be headed to the Government House on Thursday to help prepare the dish for more than 400 guests. This event is traditionally known for being held on the hottest day of the year, but the forecast is looking 84 and sunny right now. We’ll take that!
All recipe submissions will be published in the 2018 Buy Local Cookout Recipes Cookbook that will be available online in August. You can download past cookbooks for free here.
The Governor’s Buy Local Cookout is the kickoff to the Buy Local Challenge Week and our 2nd Annual Buy Local Challenge Celebration on Monday, July 30th is the bookend. 12 Days, 3 amazing events, and lots of fun!
