Farm Equipment Rental

SMADC has purchased some farmland equipment to be shared and rented for farmers across the Southern Maryland region through various county entities. A complete inventory of all equipment available for rent is listed by county below.

NOTE: Some of the equipment will require the user to undergo training, either by attending a scheduled training session, viewing a training video, or requesting a review of the operation of the equipment from the provider.

Southern Maryland Meats Freezer Trailer

Commercial Meat Freezer Trailers
Used to transport locally raised (USDA slaughtered, vacuum packed and frozen) meat cuts directly from the slaughter facility to the farm for sale to consumers, restaurants, stores and other retail venues. Available to any livestock producer in the five counties of Southern Maryland.

Managing entities for the freezer trailers are Calvert County Farm Bureau, the Home Grown Farm Market LLC, and Prince George’s County Farm Bureau. Please contact managing entities for full rental terms and conditions.

Anne Arundel County

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

Available to residents of other counties.

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation

To rent equipment, you will need to provide a certificate of liability insurance for a minimum of $1 million. AAEDC and Tom Collinson need to be listed as additional insured (AAEDC and Sarah Campbell for Mobile Poultry Processing Unit). Mobile Poultry Processing Unit

All renters must complete the MD State Poultry and Rabbit Certification. Rental is available to residents of the five Southern Maryland counties. Learn more about the Poultry Processing Unit here.

 

 


Commercial Meat Freezer Trailer

Used to transport locally raised (USDA slaughtered, vacuum packed and frozen) meat cuts directly from the slaughter facility to the farm for sale to consumers, restaurants, stores and other retail venues. Calvert County

Calvert Soil Conservation District

Available to Calvert County residents only, except the Grain Vac and Weed Wiper which are available to residents of other Southern Maryland counties.

To reserve the equipment – Please contact the Calvert Soil Conservation office at (410) 535-1521 ext. 3. CSC will need to have verification of insurance and a copy will need to be supplied before the equipment is picked up. Charles County

Charles Soil Conservation District

Available to residents of other counties.

Stop by the Charles SCD office to complete a Conservation Assistance Agreement Form and schedule when you would like to reserve the equipment or; Mail the completed Conservation Assistance Agreement Form to  CCSD office and call to schedule when you would like to reserve the equipment. Charles County Farm Bureau

To reserve the Charles County Farm Bureau Equipment Call or email David Hancock (information at top of page) or leave a message on the Charles County Farm Bureau Facebook page. Use of the chute and scale requires prior training. All equipment will be stored at Hugh C. Gardiner, Inc. in Faulkner. When the equipment is rented, someone will help to load the equipment for the renter and will provide renter with information and instruction on use of equipment as needed. Gardiners will inspect equipment upon its return and collect rental fee.

Prince George's County

Prince George’s Soil Conservation District

Available to Prince Georges County residents only.

The Prince George’s Soil Conservation District offers an array of equipment for farmers and landowners to rent. Through the rental program, farmers can improve their tillage without purchasing equipment. Cooperators are asked to bring their own hitch pin when they are moving equipment. Equipment must be picked up and returned to areas designated by PGSCD staff.The renter signs a contract with the District, receives training on proper use of the equipment and pays a reasonable fee for the use of the equipment.
