Trossbach Produce, is a family-owned and operated farm located in St. Mary’s County, just north of Point Lookout State Park. They sell peaches and berries as well as a variety of fresh vegetables, jams, and baked goods. As Trossbach Produce transitions from one generation to the next, they applied for the SMADC Agricultural Mini-Grant in July 2017 to support the construction of a 4,080 square foot high tunnel to extend their growing season and to better facilitate current and future market needs. This allows the farm to start growing crops earlier, such as tomatoes, and diversify to build a larger customer base.
The total cost of the project (including high tunnel kit, lumber, hardware, and labor) was just over $12,000. The Natural Resources Conservation Service’s EQIP program provided funds as well as SMADC with additional matching funds.
You can find their products at the California Farmers’ Market in St. Mary’s from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays from June to October. For more information about the farm, follow Trossbach Produce on Facebook.
SMADC is proud to see all the great work that the Mini-Grant recipients are doing to improve and diversify their farm operations! Stay tuned for more features from Mini-Grant awardees.
