So. Maryland, So Good: Buy Local Guide
Directory of regional farmers markets, farm stands, stores, and CSAs
Welcome to the online edition of the So. Maryland, So Good: Buy Local Guide.
Search the interactive guide by county to locate farm markets in your area and find ‘need to know’ market details – season openings and business hours, location maps, market websites and social media links, plus information on online orders and payment options. Bold keys identify which markets, stands and stores accept Federal Nutrition Benefits, and look for the ‘Maryland Market Money’ program logo on participating markets that offer matching dollars for purchases made using SNAP/EBT/P-EBT, eWIC, and Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits.

*Check market websites and Facebook for these purchase options.
Electronic Payment
Credit cards and touchless payment such as PayPal and Apple Pay are increasingly used to facilitate purchase transactions. Be sure to ask individual vendors about their payment options.
Online Pre-Order and Pick-up Options
Some markets and individual vendors offer pre-order, order-pickup and ‘virtual’ farmers market platforms for a totally ‘touchless’ and distanced purchase process.
Federal Nutrition Benefit Programs
Many markets and individual vendors accept Federal Nutrition Benefits: SNAP/EBT/P-EBT, eWIC, and Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and may also offer a ‘dollar for dollar’ match for federal benefit program purchases.
MMM – Maryland Market Money nutrition benefits ‘dollar for dollar match’
Maryland Market Money (MMM) is a food access program that reduces hunger and builds community through Maryland farmers markets. MMM provides a ‘dollar-for-dollar’ match for purchases of eligible items made with federal nutrition benefits—SNAP/EBT/P-EBT, eWIC, and Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits at farmers markets. Look for the MMM logo on participating Southern Maryland markets.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA):
Consumers buy a ‘subscription to the farm’s harvest in advance and receive a ‘share’ of the farm’s bounty — weekly or bi-weekly boxes of farm produce and other farm products, delivered to your door, or for pick up at the farm or other pre-arranged location. Many CSAs offer a choice of seasonal subscriptions: Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, or Whole Season.
FMNP = Farmers Market Nutrition Program
FVC = Fruit & Vegetable Check
SNAP/EBT = Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Card

Farmers Market & COVID
FARMERS MARKETS & COVID-19
Managing food supply and human health.
Farmers’ markets play a critical role in providing fresh, nutritious and locally-produced food to consumers across the state and Washington DC metro area. The Maryland Department of Agriculture has declared farmers markets an essential business and an important source of food.
From the CDC: Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. Before preparing or eating food, it is important to always wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds for general food safety. Throughout the day, wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing, or going to the bathroom. Read more about food safety handling practices from the CDC.
Our online Buy Local Guide is updated as new information is available but during this time, we advise you to contact farm and market managers and/or market Facebook pages and websites for:
- Opening days and hours, which may be changed due to COVID
- Following ‘abundance of caution’, many markets have enacted measures to protect the health of their customers and vendors such as: social distancing rules, limiting 1 person per family, no children, no pets, pre-bagged items to reduce contact and speed up shopping, pre-order and pick-up at market, and other regulations. Check your market Facebook and website for specific details.
- General health guidelines: Stay home if you are not feeling well, wash your hands before and after visiting the market, carry hand sanitizer with you, shop with your eyes – do not handle products unless you intend to purchase, maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and other shoppers and vendors.
We appreciate your understanding as farmers, markets and local communities are navigating COVID-19 and taking steps to ensure a safe and adequate food supply for consumers while also protecting human health and adhering to the latest state and federal guidance and regulations.
List Your Market, Farm Stand/Store or CSA
Are you a farmers market, farm stand/store, or CSA organizer?
This guide features farmers markets, farm stands/stores (seasonal and year-round), and CSAs (seasonal and year-round), located in the five-county Southern Maryland region. Farmers markets outside of the region may also be featured if they include one or more Southern Maryland farm vendor (farms located in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s or St. Mary’s counties). The market manager must verify the farm vendors represented.
