SoMD Community Fridges & Food Access
SMADC’s Food Access programs strengthen Southern Maryland’s food economy by supporting farmers and providing better access to fresh, local, nutritious food for residents experiencing food insecurity. These programs include the Community Fridge program, Community School Family Markets, and the Food Box Distribution program.
A community fridge is a zero-barrier (no documentation required) free food source maintained and used by the community it serves. Fridges offer mutual support to reduce hunger and food waste, building a stronger and more resilient community.

These programs are currently seeking applications from agricultural producers in Charles County to sell and deliver their products for distribution to populations experiencing food insecurity in Charles County during the 2024 calendar year.
You can find and/or donate fresh food, pantry staples, and personal care items to the following fridge and food pantries:
- Christ Church La Plata – 112 Charles St. La Plata, MD.
- Charles County Community School Family Markets (school members only)
- Charles County Food Pantry Partner LifeStyles of Maryland (select locations)
- Lifestream Church of the Nazarene (coming soon)
