Southern Maryland Farmers' Market Guide

Southern Maryland Farmers’ Market Guide

Welcome to the online edition of the Southern Maryland Farmers’ Market Guide. Look for a print version in the future. We are updating this webpage frequently with the latest information about area farmers’ markets. We appreciate your understanding as farmers, markets and local communities are navigating COVID-19 and taking steps to ensure a safe and adequate food supply for consumers while also protecting human health and adhering to the latest state and federal guidance and regulations.

Are you a farmers’ market organizer?

The Southern Maryland Farmers’ Market Guide features farmers’ markets that are located in the five-county Southern Maryland region. Markets outside of the region may also be featured if they include one or more Southern Maryland farm vendor (farms located in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s or St. Mary’s counties). The market manager must verify the farm/name of vendors represented.

If you meet the qualifications and would like to be added, please email info@smadc.com with the required information.

FARMERS’ MARKETS & COVID-19

Managing food supply and human health.
Farmers’ markets play a critical role in providing fresh, nutritious and locally-produced food to consumers across the state and Washington DC metro area. The Maryland Department of Agriculture has declared farmers markets an essential business and an important source of food. The Department has asked markets to remain open during the current state of emergency.

From the CDC: Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. Before preparing or eating food, it is important to always wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds for general food safety. Throughout the day, wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing, or going to the bathroom. Read more about food safety handling practices from the CDC.

Our online Farmers’ Market Guide is updated as new information is available but during this time, we advise you to contact market managers and/or market Facebook pages and websites for:

  • Opening days and hours, which may be changed due to COVID emergency
  • Following ‘abundance of caution’, many markets have enacted measures to protect the health of their customers and vendors such as: social distancing rules, limiting 1 person per family, no children, no pets, pre-bagged items to reduce contact and speed up shopping, pre-order and pick-up at market, and other regulations. Check your market Facebook and website for specific details.
  • General health guidelines: Stay home if you are not feeling well, wash your hands before and after visiting the market, carry hand sanitizer with you, shop with your eyes – do not handle products unless you intend to purchase, maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and other shoppers and vendors.
